Hitching up ‘Trailer’

Canucks put cult comedy skein on bigscreen

TORONTO — Canuck TV mockumentary cult hit “The Trailer Park Boys,” which airs on BBC America, has the greenlight for a C$5 million bigscreen version.

It will be helmed by TV series director and head writer Mike Clattenburg, and feature the skein’s stars Mike Smith, Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay.

TV series’ producers Clattenburg, Barrie Dunn and Mike Volpe will produce.

Executive producers are Ivan Reitman (“Meatballs,” “Ghostbusters”) and Tom Pollock. Their production company, Montecito Pictures, will co-own the rights along with Trailer Park Prods.; Topsail Entertainment of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Canuck distributor Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Group.

The film will shoot in Halifax this summer for a summer 2006 release.

Now entering its fifth season, the skein airs on Canuck specialty channel Showcase, and has garnered the highest ratings of any indigenous series. It airs in the U.K. on the Paramount Comedy Channel.
