‘Glasses’ gets glory

The 35th Tampere short film festival wrapped Sunday night, with Norwegian filmmaker Pjotr Sapegin taking the Grand Prix for his toon “Through My Thick Glasses.”

Mika Taanila’s documentary “Optical Sound” topped the Finnish Competition in the under-30 minutes series, while Pirjo Honkasalo’s “Three Rooms of Melancholy” won the over-30- minutes series.

Irish five-minute doc “Undressing My Mother,” by Ken Wardrop, nabbed the EFA-UIP award.

The short film award went to Simo Koivunen, Samppa Kukkonen and Sara Wahl for “Night Shift.”

Mervi Junkkonen received the Risto Jarva Prize for her pic “About a Farm,” in which she documents the despair of her farmer parents when they must give up their cattle.
