French cruise for Lucas

'Star Wars' helmer given career tribute

PARIS — The Cannes Film Festival will award George Lucas its Festival Trophy in a ceremony onboard the Queen Mary 2.

The luxury cruise liner will dock in the Bay of Cannes for the occasion May 15, the day the fest screens “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith.”

Cannes artistic director Thierry Fremaux will present Lucas with the career award, after a film tribute to the filmmaker conducted by fest prexy Gilles Jacob. Managing director Veronique Cayla also will be present.

Lucas is the 10th recipient of the Festival Trophy. Previous honorees are Ken Loach, Max Von Sydow, Melanie Griffith, Philippe Noiret, Jeanne Moreau, Sean Penn, Alain Resnais, Gong Li and Gregory Peck.
