NEW YORK — Former Wellspring Media execs Michael Thornton and Sheri Levine have launched a new Gotham-based, international sales and distrib banner dubbed Forward Entertainment.
Heading into Cannes, new shingle has sealed a deal to rep overseas rights on the Sundance standout docu “Unknown White Male” as the first pic on its slate.
Indie distribution company Wellspring pacted with Court TV to snap up domestic rights to the pic back in February.
Helmed by Rupert Murray, “Male” follows a Brit who wakes up on a Brooklyn subway train with amnesia and must journey home to try to piece his life back together.
Beadie Finzi and Murray produced the pic, which was exec produced by Jess Search. “Male” was initially commissioned by the doc department at the U.K.’s Channel Four.
“It’s incredibly important to us that the film is being looked after by a committed, passionate team who believe as much in the film as we do,” said Finzi. “Jess Search worked with Michael Thornton while she was at Channel 4 Television in the U.K., and we feel very confident continuing a strong working relationship.”
Thornton has also held posts at Spelling Entertainment and Disney. An attorney and CPA, Levine was formerly with the Fox/Lorber label.
