Paramount and MTV Films have signed Tony winner Viola Davis to star opposite 50 Cent in the untitled action-adventure pic formerly dubbed “Locked and Loaded.”
Davis will play the grandmother who raised 50 Cent; rapper portrays a gangster turned musician.
Thesp, who won a Tony for “King Hedley II,” was tapped this week to topline the ABC pilot “Laws of Chance.”
Pic, also starring Joy Bryant, is directed by Jim Sheridan and written by Terrence Winter. Shooting’s expected to start in the spring.
The 50 Cent project is also being produced by Interscope Prods.; producers are Jimmy Iovine, Paul Rosenberg, Chris Lighty and Jim Sheridan. Exec producers are Van Toffler, David Gale, Heather Parry, Stuart Parr, Gene Kirkwood and Arthur Lappin. Par senior VP Wendy Japhet is overseeing for the studio.
