CANNES — Helmer Costa-Gavras will preside over tributes and retrospectives with an international flavor at the third Paris Cinema film fest, June 29-July 12.
Thesps Jeanne Moreau, Jackie Chan and Javier Bardem plus helmers Michael Cimino, Moustapha Alassane and Helma Sanders-Brahms will be honored at the event.
Fest, which drew 90,000 viewers last year, selects 20 films from around the world to compete for the public prize, the press prize and the future prize. Last year’s winner of the public prize was Gallic movie “When the Tide Comes In,” which picked up this year’s Cesar for first film.
The fest was created by Mayor Bertrand Delanoe after he deemed the Paris Film Festival — then underwritten by City Hall — unworthy of funding.
The Paris Film Festival is still going, despite financial problems and allegations of fraud.
