‘Cats,’ ‘Bird’ to fest

World Brief

Sprockets, the Toronto Film Festival for Children, announced Tuesday the fest’s School Week slate, which includes the Dutch film “Bluebird,” from Mijke de Jong, and “Raining Cats and Frogs” (La Prophetie des grenouilles), from French animator Jacques-Remy Girard.

Part of the 2004 Toronto Film Festival, “Bluebird” addresses self-esteem, social responsibility and empathy as 13-year-old Merel falls victim to bullying. “Raining Cats and Frogs” is a Noah’s Arc parable.

Sprockets, which runs April 29-May 8, is divided into two segments.

The School Week program, May 2-6, is designed for school groups, with curriculum links and support materials for educators provided.

The slate for two Family Weekends bookending the fest, April 29-May 1 and May 7-8, will be announced in April.
