AUCKLAND — Four of the award-winning films from this year’s Cannes Film Festival will have their first screenings outside Europe at the New Zealand Intl. Film Festivals, which unspool from July 8-Nov. 23.
The non-competitive event plays four cities and a dozen provincial centers between now and year’s end.
Fest director Bill Gosden has secured the Dardenne brothers’ Palme d’Or winner “The Child.” Michael Haneke’s “Hidden,” which won the director prize, opens the fest in Auckland and Wellington. Camera d’Or winner “Me and You and Everyone We Know” and jury prize-winner “Shanghai Dreams” are also on the 150-film program.
The full lineup, which is rich in documentaries but reflects a thin year for local features, was announced Tuesday evening. For more details, go to http://www.nzff.co.nz
