Brazilian Fest opens

The ninth Brazilian Film Festival of Miami will kick off today, with 11 features and 12 shorts in competition.

Jury is comprised of Brazilian helmer and opera director Carla Camurati; Patricia Boero, former director of international programs at Sundance and now a program director at Hispanics in Philanthropy; Marcelo Coltro, veep of sales and marketing at MGM Networks Latin America; and Michael Ellenbogen, exec VP of production and development at Co.Op.

Fest will recognize multihyphenate Daniel Filho with a five-film retrospective and present an achievement award to actress Bete Mendes.

After Miami, fest travels to Gotham in July.
