Becker sets sail for ‘Navy’

Laffer hoping for a late summer start

Touchstone Pictures has tapped helmer Walt Becker (“National Lampoon’s Van Wilder”) to direct laffer “In the Navy.”

Pic has been greenlit for summer 2006 release. The studio is eyeing an August start.

Project, which began as a pitch, is about a wily, scamming Navy clerk who accidentally switches places with a legendary Navy SEAL and is sent on a covert operation in Cuba.

Jason Filardi (“Bringing Down the House”) made the pitch and wrote the script. Arnold and Anne Kopelson are producing; Sherryl Clark is exec producer. Jason Reed is overseeing the project for the studio.
