The South by Southwest Film Conference & Festival will host “A Conversation With Peter Bart” this year and stage a panel focusing on Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner’s 2929 Entertainment businesses.
Fest runs March 10-18 in Austin, Texas. Panels are held at the Austin Convention Center, with moderators to be decided.
Bart has served as editor-in-chief of Variety since 1989. As a Paramount Pictures exec, he shepherded pics such as “The Godfather,” “Harold and Maude,” “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Paper Moon.”
He is co-host of the AMC skein “Sunday Morning Shootout” with Peter Guber and has penned books including “Dangerous Company: Dark Tales From Tinseltown” and “The Gross: The Hits, the Flops … The Summer That Ate Hollywood.”
Bart “has had a front-row seat in the film business for decades,” fest producer Matt Dentler said. “He’s been there, he’s done it, and we can’t wait to hear what he has to say about it.”
SXSW panel “A Landmark Business” will focus on Cuban and Wagner’s 2929 entities and how those business units are working together to collapse traditional distribution windows. Execs from Magnolia Pictures, Landmark Theaters and HDNet are expected to participate.
Other panels at this year’s SXSW will include “Legal Advice for Filmmakers” and “The Subject of Documentaries.”
