Santa Monica-based B.D. Fox & Friends Advertising has launched B. D. Fox Marketing and Distribution. Shingle will bow with “Smile” April 8 in Los Angeles and San Francisco, followed by a national rollout for the coming-of-age pic.
Written and directed by Jeffrey Kramer, “Smile” stars Mika Boorem (“Blue Crush,”) Luoyong Wang (“Miss Saigon,”) Beau Bridges, Sean Astin, Cheri Oteri and Linda Hamilton.
Pic is based on events surrounding Operation Smile, a charity founded by a Norfolk, Va. plastic surgeon that provides free reconstructive surgery to citizens in developing nations. A portion of the film’s proceeds will go to the organization.
Kramer received special permission from the Chinese government to film “Smile” in both Shanghai and Kunshan/Jingxi, in Jiangsu Province.
Martin O’Neal’s Dark Forest produced “Smile.” Based in Gulfport, Miss., the realtor-turned-producer plans to shoot two more pics with Kramer: “Five Stones” and “Flower in Brazil.”
Last year, B.D. Fox launched Televisa Cine’s film “A Day Without a Mexican.” Mike Doban will handle distribution for B.D. Fox.
Founded in l977, B.D. Fox created motion picture advertising and marketing campaigns for “E.T.,” “Batman,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Harry Potter,” and “The Matrix.” The company also produced DVDs and home entertainment campaigns for “Potter,” “The Matrix” trilogy, “Pokemon,” “Friends” and “West Wing.”
