WWII drama “The Aryan Couple” and Jeff Hare’s “Checking Out” were the big winners at the Palm Beach Intl. Film Festival, which wrapped April 21. The 10-year-old fest drew more than 150 documentaries, shorts and feature films.
Event closed with an awards ceremony in which John Daly’s “The Aryan Couple” was presented with awards for best feature and actor (Kenny Doughty). Documentary feature prize went to Dani Menkin’s “39 Pounds of Love,” while “Night of the Dog,” a collaborative project of six filmmakers, took home the Audience Choice Award for feature film.
Laura San Giacomo received actress kudos for her work in “Checking Out,” for which Hare was named best director. Suicide comedy also served as the fest’s closing night film.
At Saturday’s awards gala, Brett Ratner received the Founder’s Award, Leslie Nielsen took home the Lifetime in Entertainment Award, and Peter Boyle was presented the Showmanship Award by his “Raymond” co-star Patricia Heaton. Other honorees included Bai Ling, Salma Hayek and Woody Harrelson.
