Five student films have been selected as finalists for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 2005 foreign-language film kudo in the Student Academy Awards competition.
The ceremony will be held June 12 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
The winner will have the opportunity to come to L.A. to participate in the awards event.
The five finalists are “About Roses,” by Remy Van Heugten (Netherlands); “Badgered,” by Sharon Colman (U.K.); “Dark Night,” by Leonid Prudovsky (Israel); “The Day Nothing Happened,” by Ramon Alos Sanchez (Italy); and “The Runaway,” by Ulrike Grote (Germany).
A number of past winners have gone on to Oscar success. Filmmakers Jan Sverak and Mike Van Diem both won foreign-language film Oscars. Most recently, Florian Baxmeyer received a live-action short nom in 2003.
