Centennial event will kick off UCLA screening series
HOLLYWOOD — The Academy of Motion Arts & Sciences will salute Greta Garbo in honor of the screen legend’s 100th birthday.
Lena Olin will host the centennial tribute, featuring film clips from Garbo’s career with commentary by guests Gore Vidal, Gavin Lambert and actress Joan Leslie. Event will be held April 7 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Hollywood.
Presented in conjunction with the Consulate General of Sweden, the centennial tribute will kick off the UCLA Film and Television Archive’s screening series “Garbo: The Divine Woman.” Retrospective begins with “Gosta Berling” (1924), featuring the thesp’s first major screen perf, and includes “Anna Christie,” “Mata Hari,” “Queen Christina,” “Anna Karenina,” “Grand Hotel,” “Camille” and “Ninotchka.”
