NEW YORK — Continuing its expansion beyond the Loews Hotel in Santa Monica, the American Film Market has rented a full floor of office suites at the Le Merigot Hotel next door.
Move, which marks a 10% increase in exhib space over the 2004 mart, was announced by Independent & Film Television Alliance exec VP Jonathan Wolf, who is managing director of AFM.
This year’s edition of the market runs Nov. 2-9.
Wolf said the need for additional exhib space at Le Merigot reflects the renewed strength of the global indie film industry and the early response from film companies around the world planning on attending AFM.
Traditionally, AFM has used Le Merigot only for spillover seminars and video screenings. For the first time last year, the mart rented out exhib space in the lobby of Le Merigot.
This year, exhibitors will occupy an additional 32 rooms on the second floor, in addition to those exhibitors remaining at Loews.
AFM also is upping the number of video screening rooms at Le Merigot.
