Pledge to help out 'orphan films'

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has made a third donation of $250,000 to the National Film Preservation Foundation.

Pledge is intended to preserve “orphan films,” which have no studio support or other form of financial backing.

Acad first pledged $250,000 to the NFPF in 1997 to help jump-start the org. Most recent contribution marks a total of $750,000 donated by AMPAS.
