Rhys Meyers joining Cruise, Rhames in third installment
Paramount and C/W Prods. have tapped Jonathan Rhys Meyers to star with Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible 3,” set to start lensing in July in Italy.
Rhys Meyers will portray an associate of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character.
Ving Rhames, who appeared in both “Mission: Impossible” films as sidekick Luther Stickel, is expected to return for “M:I 3” along with Michelle Monaghan.
“M:I 3” will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who replaced Joe Carnahan as the director last summer.
Rhys Meyers’ bigscreen credits include “Bend It Like Beckham” and “Match Point.” He also toplined CBS’ recent Elvis Presley biopic “Elvis.”
Abrams is creator and exec producer of ABC skeins “Alias” and “Lost.”
