Weinsteins put focus on Web

Deep Focus to oversee company's online initiatives

NEW YORK — Bolstering its new-media aspirations, the Weinstein Co. has picked Gotham-based banner Deep Focus to act as its online agency of record, overseeing the company’s online media planning and buying, creative advertising and public relations.

Deep Focus founder and CEO Ian Schafer is a onetime veep of new media at Miramax Films and its Dimension genre label. He worked for the Weinsteins there from 1999 through 2002, and subsequently handled Miramax and Dimension’s online initiatives for the past three years.

“We are thrilled to be renewing our relationship with Deep Focus,” co-head Bob Weinstein said. “Their expertise and experience in entertainment marketing online is matched by no one, and they will provide us with invaluable assets in creating revolutionary online advertising campaigns for our properties.”

Schafer’s company has previously worked on online campaigns for “Sin City” and the “Kill Bill” pics.

Deep Focus has a Los Angeles presence and has additionally created campaigns for HBO and 20th Century Fox as well as record labels Interscope, Geffen and Jive.
