Alba, Christensen to star in 'Awake'
The Weinstein Co. and GreeneStreet films have inked Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen to star in psychological thriller “Awake.”
The two companies are co-financing the pic, which will be the directorial debut of Joby Harold. Harold also penned the script.
Story focuses on a man (Christensen) who suffers “anesthetic awareness” and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during surgery. His young wife (Alba) must wrestle with her own demons as a drama unfolds around them.
“This film will do to surgery what ‘Jaws’ did to swimming in the ocean,” promised producer Joana Vicente.
Vicente and Jason Kliot, both of Deutsch/Open City Films, are producing, along with GreeneStreet Films.
Pic is skedded to begin shooting in October in Gotham.
Alba was most recently seen in Fox’s “Fantastic Four” and appeared in Miramax’s “Sin City” earlier this year. Her next pic, Sony’s “Into the Blue,” opens Sept. 30.
Christensen gained fame as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the last two “Star Wars” films.
The Weinstein Co. is gearing up for a fast start in October. Lensing also begins that month on “Killshot,” starting Diane Lane and helmed by John Madden (Daily Variety, Aug. 31).
