Reyes to direct pic about ballet prodigy Cisneros
Disney has bought pitch “Tiny Dancer” from scribes Franc Reyes and Neal Gumpel in a preemptive deal. Reyes is slated to direct the pic.
Project is based on the true story of Roberto Cisneros, a Mexican-American ballet prodigy from Oakland, Calif., who faced personal and family challenges when he was discovered as a young boy.
Brian Linse is executive producer. Disney’s Louanne Brickhouse heard the pitch and brought the project to the studio.
Gumpel secured Cisneros’ life rights and worked with Linse to develop the project.
Reyes, a former dancer and choreographer, directed “Empire,” starring John Leguizamo. Reyes also is rewriting “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt” for New Regency and will direct the project.
