Sanchez will helm horror pic
NEW YORK — Rogue Pictures, the genre arm of Universal specialty unit Focus Features, has picked up worldwide rights to horror pic “Altered,” to be helmed by “The Blair Witch Project” co-creator Eduardo Sanchez.
Pic, which follows a group of men living a night of terror after their lives were changed 15 years earlier by a strange occurrence, begins lensing next month in Florida.
“Altered” further reunites “Blair Witch” producers Robin Cowie and Gregg Hale and its exec producer Bob Eick. It’s being produced through the Haxan Films banner.
Matt Compton, Jeff Johnsen and Mike Monello are co-producing “Altered”; Andrew Lang is associate producer.
Cast includes Adam Kaufman, Catherine Mangan, Brad William Henke, Mike Williams, Paul McCarthy Boyington and James Gammon.
Jamie Nash penned the script from a story he created with Sanchez.
Focus, headed by James Schamus and David Linde, will offer the pic to foreign buyers in Cannes.
“Altered” is taking advantage of Universal Studios Florida Production Group’s Stage 20 Independent Filmmaker Initiative, which gives breaks to pics that qualify, in part, by hiring a majority of their crews locally.
Rogue’s upcoming slate includes the Jet Li vehicle “Unleashed.”
