Par taps Bakshi to lead prod’n

Exec steps into spot left by Gallo

Veteran exec Mark Bakshi has been promoted to president of feature production management for Paramount Pictures, succeeding the retiring Fred Gallo.

Bakshi will be responsible for all aspects of worldwide physical production, production finance and estimating for Par’s live-action and animated features. He’ll report to studio president Donald De Line, who’s also vice chairman of the Motion Picture Group.

Gallo announced in October that he was retiring from the post and segueing to a production deal with the studio.

Bakshi is overseeing production management on Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds,” Cameron Crowe’s “Elizabethtown” and Adam Sandler starrer “The Longest Yard.” He worked on “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” “Coach Carter,” remake “The Manchurian Candidate,” “The Truman Show,” “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie,” “The Wild Thornberrys,” “Vanilla Sky” and both films in Par’s “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

Bakshi has been exec VP of feature production management since 2002 following six years as senior VP of feature production management. He joined Par in 1994 from Disney, where he held a number of production positions.
