Par signs ‘Election’ pair

Paramount, MTV pact Bona Fide

Paramount Pictures and MTV Films have signed a two-year first-look deal with Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa and their Bona Fide Prods. shingle.

The duo previously produced “Election” and “The Wood” for Paramount and MTV. Berger and Yerxa also have been producers on “King of the Hill,” “Crumb” and “Cold Mountain” along with the upcoming Focus Features’ “Ice Harvest,” starring John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and Fox Searchlight’s “Bee Season,” toplining Richard Gere and Juliette Binoche.

Announcement comes with MTV expected to ramp up development as part of Paramount’s shift toward riskier projects aimed at younger moviegoers with Brad Grey taking over this week as studio chief.

Berger and Yerxa hooked up a dozen years ago on Steven Soderbergh’s “King of the Hill.”

“We’re most interested in finding personal voices in the contemporary American scene, particularly through subversive comedies,” Berger told Daily Variety.

Bona Fide’s next projects are “Little Miss Sunshine,” financed by Marc Turtletaub with Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Ferris directing, and “Little Children,” based on Tom Perotta’s novel with Todd Field directing for New Line.
