Paramount Pictures has tapped Lasse Hallstrom to direct “Daughter of the Queen of Sheba,” based on Jacki Lyden’s bestselling memoir.
“Sheba” will be produced by Store Front Pictures president Susan Cartsonis, Matt Williams and Leslie Holleran, Hallstrom’s producing partner; Hadeel Reda exec produces. Karen Croner (“One True Thing”) is scripting. Par prexy of production Karen Rosenfelt will oversee for the studio, which is in negotiations with Hallstrom.
Lyden’s book centers on her mother’s manic-depressive episodes while raising a family in a small Wisconsin town.
Cartsonis and Williams began developing “Sheba” in 1997 while at Wind Dancer Films, where she was president and he was the principal of the shingle. At one point, Meryl Streep and Gwyneth Paltrow were attached to portray the mother and daughter.
Hallstrom directed Disney’s upcoming “Casanova” and Miramax’s yet-to-be-released “An Unfinished Life.”
Lyden was a foreign correspondent for NPR during the Gulf War.
