Owen targets ‘Shoot’

Ultraviolent pic to start production in January

Clive Owen is taking aim at “Shoot-Em-Up” for New Line.

“Sin City” star is in final negotiations for a pay-or-play deal estimated at mid-seven figures, triggering a greenlight for the ultraviolent pic, which will start production in January.

Script by Michael Davis, who will also helm, would feature Owen as a mysterious man protecting a newborn baby from criminals out to kill it. Set pieces include a shootout during a sex scene and another in the midst of a freefall.

Don Murphy is producing through his AngryFilms shingle along with partners Susan Montford and Rick Benattar.

Mini-major is targeting a holiday 2006 release, giving it a second actioner and potential franchise on next year’s slate along with shark horror pic “Meg.”

Davis previously made indie pics including Slamdance winner “Eight Days a Week” and “100 Girls.”

Cale Boyter and Jeff Katz are overseeing for New Line.
