New Line is looking to make Ice Cube “Teacher of the Year.”
Mini-major has bought the comedy pitch from scribe Jeff Bushell with an eye for Cube to star in the tale of two junior high school instructors in a brutal competition to take teacher of the year honors.
Cube and partner Matt Alvarez are producing via their Cubevision shingle, along with John Jacobs of Smart Entertainment. Nash Entertainment’s Bruce Nash and Bob Kosberg, who developed the idea with Bushell, are exec producing.
Once a finished draft comes in, Cube will likely attach himself to the project if everyone involved wants to move forward.
Thesp more recently hit big with comedy “Are We There Yet?,” which he and Alvarez produced. His recent action pic, Sony/Revolution’s “XXX: State of the Union,” fared poorly.
Bushell worked on “Curious George” for Universal and is penning “South of the Border” for Disney.
Jacobs recently sold specs “Trap Door” and “Man Scout” to New Line.
Nash, who has a long history in reality TV, has been moving aggressively into features along with Kosberg. Pair have set up “Sherlock’s Secretary” at Walden Media and “To Wally Ward” at Revolution.
Matt Moore and Luke Ryan are overseeing for the studio.
