New Line fits laff star for new ‘Uniform’

'King' star James is the 'Man'

Fresh off his co-starring role in hit comedy “Hitch,” Kevin James is in negotiations to topline “Man in Uniform” for New Line.

“King of Queens” star would play a beleaguered everyman whose life radically changes after he takes possession of a policeman’s missing uniform.

James recently signed to star in the Disney comedy “Field Trip” (Daily Variety, April 22). He’ll provide the lead voice for Steve Oedekerk’s animated feature “The Barnyard” for Paramount next year.

Bob Cooper is producing “Man in Uniform” through his Landscape Entertainment shingle. Karen Lunder is exec producing.

Richard Brenner and Cale Boyter are overseeing project for the studio.
