Mandate Pictures has sealed a spate of international distrib deals on “Rise,” starring Lucy Liu, including one for Universal to roll out the project in the U.K., France and Latin America.
In pre-production, pic by Sebastian Gutierrez, who penned “Gothika,” is a horror-thriller in which a young female reporter wakes up in a morgue to discover that she is no longer among the living.
Mandate also has sold off the pic in Germany (Falcom), Italy (Eagle), Spain (Aurum) and Benelux (West Video for CIS and RCV).
Greg Shapiro of Kingsgate Films and Carsten Lorenz are producing “Rise” for Ghost House Pictures.
Mandate further sold off a number of territories on an untitled project by “The Eye” helmers Danny and Oxide Pang, which will mark the twin brothers’ English-lingo debut.
Pang pic — a horror concept that follows a family moving out of the city to a rural farm — will go through Momentum Pictures in the U.K., Falcom in Germany, Aurum in Spain, Metropolitan in France, RAI in Italy, Lumiere in Brazil, Gussi in Mexico and Dutch Filmworks in Benelux.
Mandate is based in Los Angeles and led by Joe Drake. Ghost House is Mandate’s joint venture with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert.
