Distrib picks up rights to Garcia pic
NEW YORK — Indie distribber Magnolia Pictures and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have pacted to pick up domestic distribution rights to writer-helmer Rodrigo Garcia’s “Nine Lives.” Magnolia takes theatrical rights and the Sony arm comes away with home entertainment.
Magnolia will release the pic — a femme-centric relationship drama told in interwoven vignettes — in September.
Ensemble cast includes Glenn Close, Amy Brenneman, Dakota Fanning, Holly Hunter, Joe Mantegna, Ian McShane, Mary Kay Place, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Dillane and Robin Wright Penn, among others.
Pic bowed earlier this year at the Sundance Film Fest, and was produced through the Mockingbird Pictures and Z Films banners.
Julie Lynn served as producer, with “21 Grams” helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu exec producing.
Pic screened this week as the Target-sponsored centerpiece film at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
A division of Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner’s 2929 Entertainment banner, Magnolia is in current release with “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.”
