Rapper-actor pacts with studio for multipic deal
LL Cool J has inked a multiyear, multipic deal with Lions Gate Films, under which he and Alchemy Entertainment will produce for the indie studio.
Lions Gate Films production prexy Michael Paseornek said the deal fits in perfectly with the studio’s mandate to be the leading producer of urban market films. Pact is a partnership between LL Cool J Inc., Alchemy — which manages Cool — and Lions Gate.
Paseornek and senior VP of production John Sacchi will oversee Alchemy projects for Lions Gate Films, with Cool and Alchemy topper Jason Barrett producing.
Lions Gate will retain all worldwide rights, with Lions Gate Intl. president Nicolas Meyer and Lions Gate Films Intl. president Stephanie Denton brokering rights overseas.
“This is the perfect transition for me, as I can now pour all the energy and creative juices I have learned over the years into this fresh and exciting producing venture,” Cool said.
Alchemy manages actors, writers and producers, packaging films and TV projects and setting up financing and co-financing deals.
