Gumpert returns to studio as sr. exec veep

Nearly a decade after working in Columbia Pictures’ legal department, Andrew Gumpert has rejoined the studio as senior exec VP of business affairs.

He will report to Bob Osher, chief operating officer of the Columbia Motion Picture Group, while overseeing the business affairs team at Col. As the studio’s principal dealmaker for film projects, Gumpert will supervise the division responsible for negotiating all talent deals, rights to feature film projects and co-production financing agreements.

Before joining Col, Gumpert spent six years in the business affairs department at Dimension Films, most recently as exec VP, head of business and legal affairs, managing the division’s financing and talent deals. In particular Gumpert oversaw director, writer and producer Robert Rodriguez’s overall deal with the company and was responsible for business affairs on films including “Spy Kids” and its two sequels; “Sin City”; and two co-financing partnerships with Col, on “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” and upcoming pic “The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D.”

Gumpert previously worked in Col’s legal department from 1995-97. From 1997-99, he was VP of business/legal affairs at Interscope Communications, during which time he oversaw projects including “Very Bad Things” and “What Dreams May Come.”
