IFC dives into ‘Deep Water’

Pic is backed by Film- Four, U.K. Film Council, Pathe

IFC Films has pre-bought North American rights to Jerry Rothwell’s “Deep Water,” a documentary about the disastrous 1968 round-the-world yacht race.

Pic, which just started shooting, is backed by Film- Four, the U.K. Film Council and Pathe Pictures, which is handling worldwide sales and struck the deal with IFC.

Deal follows IFC’s successful pick-up of the mountaineering doc “Touching the Void,” also from Pathe.

Pathe sold Neil Marshall’s chiller “The Descent” to Avex in Japan after a bidding war between six firms. Pic was bought by Vertigo in Spain and negotiations are under way in all major territories outside North America.

“Mrs Henderson Presents” was picked up by Bim in Italy.
