Col enrolls in ‘Campus’

'Coyote Ugly' gal gets 'Big Man' made

Columbia Pictures has bought pitch “Big Man on Campus,” to be written by “Coyote Ugly” scribe Gina Wendkos and produced by Hal Lieberman under his first-look deal at the studio.

Project percolated after Lieberman invited Wendkos for a meeting to sound out movie ideas. Wendkos most recently scripted “The Perfect Man” and “The Princess Diaries.”

“This is a comedy that takes place in a high school where beauty and brains duke it out, and what happens when the perception of popular changes and the power structure crumbles,” Wendkos said.

Col’s Amy Baer and Adam Milano will shepherd the pic.

Wendkos will write the script for Lieberman as she readies the Michael Douglas-produced “It Should Happen to You” as a Kate Hudson vehicle at Col.

She is also scripting her pitch “Obsessed” at Imagine as a possible vehicle for Jim Carrey and Angelina Jolie, with Brian Grazer and Geyer Kosinski producing.

Lieberman, the former Universal production president who most recently partnered with director Jonathan Mostow and produced pics including “Terminator 3,” set his Sony deal up late last year. He already has a movie nearing a start date with the Mark L. Smith-scripted “Vacancy” at Screen Gems.
