Hollywood Film Fest kicks off with Warner mystery

The ninth annual Hollywood Film Fest will open with a bang.

Fest has announced its lineup, naming WB’s murder mystery “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang,” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer, as the opening selection. Pic will screen Oct. 18 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Disney toon “My Neighbor Totoro,” featuring the voices of Dakota and Elle Fanning and helmed by Hayao Miyazaki, will close the fest Oct. 23 at the ArcLight.

This year’s lineup, chosen from a pool of 2,200 submissions, includes 10 world preems, five of which have been named centerpiece preems. Lions Gate’s “Fierce People,” starring Diane Lane and Donald Sutherland, will bow Oct. 19, followed by Helen Hunt and Scarlett Johansson starrer “A Good Woman” on Oct. 21 and “The Sisters,” starring Maria Bello, on Oct. 22.

A pair of docus also will bow. Starz’s “Bullets Over Hollywood,” featuring James Caan and Talia Shire and helmed by Elaina Archer, will debut Oct. 20, followed by “Champion,” featuring Dennis Hopper and Kilmer, on Oct. 21.

Fest also includes a special screening of WB’s “North Country” on Oct. 19, featuring a Q&A sesh with pic’s star, Charlize Theron.
