Japanese major Shochiku has persuaded modernist helmer and former documentarian Kore-eda Hirokazu to direct his first samurai movie.
Now in production, “Hana Yori Mo Naho” concerns a troubled samurai warrior and a widow. Release in Japan is skedded for next spring.
Pic stars Junichi Okada (“Tokyo Tower”), Rie Miyazawa (“Twilight Samurai”) and Tadanobu Asano. Producers are Sato Shiho and Enoki Nozomu.
Shochiku also is producing “Bushi no Ichibun” (One-Line Samurai), the final part of Yoji Yamada’s trilogy that began with “Twilight Samurai” and “The Hidden Blade.”
