COLOGNE — Vidgame producers and publishers will for the first time join the three-day Cartoon Movie confab, which kicks off today in Babelsberg outside Berlin.The forum for European animation films, organized by Cartoon, the European Assn. of Animation Film, and financed by the EU’s Media program, is presenting 45 films from 19 countries. Contributions include “Laura’s Star” from Germany, “Duck Ugly” from France, and Denmark’s “Hans Christian Andersen and the Long Shadow,” a co-production from Zentropa and Dansk Tegnefilm. Organizers expect 400 guests to attend Cartoon Movie 2005. Game companies represented include Atari Germany, Elkware, Radon Labs and Exozet. Since its launch in 1999, the event has helped establish synergy between distributors, investors and producers and to produce 67 films with a total budget of $540 million.
