Comcast gears up new gaming lifestyle channel
Comcast is set to launch Players Network, a gaming lifestyle channel, on its Comcast on Demand platform.
Service, which has already been tested in 23 Comcast markets, will officially debut Nov. 8 in the Cutting Edge tier.
Players Network already provides gambling content — including behind-the-scenes footage from the World Series of Poker and instruction on casino games — to private networks in several Vegas resorts. Company also streams more than 30 hours of content on its PlayersNetwork.com Web site.
“Players Network has positioned itself as a leader in gaming entertainment through established marketing relationships within the gaming industry and the creation of original programming,” Comcast VP of content development Matt Strauss said.
Beginning in November, Comcast subs will have exclusive access to Players Network’s starting lineup of talkshow formats, educational seminars and segments featuring company spokesman James Caan in addition to other celebs and gaming experts. Company also has a library of more than 300 hours of programming.
