Satcaster DirecTV has tapped former Time Warner Cable exec Evan Grayer to serve as veepee for broadband, a newly created position.
Grayer, who also previously worked at AOL, will be responsible for evaluating the satcaster’s future in the Internet arena. Presently, DirecTV customers can sign up for satellite high-speed Internet service through DirecWay, offered by subsid Hughes Network Systems.
DirecTV prexy-CEO Chase Carey said the company operates in a highly competitive environment and that Grayer’s experience in multichannel TV, wireless and Internet will serve the satcaster well in plotting a viable strategy.
Based in New York, Grayer will report to Carey.
