Perf to use state-of-the-art hologram technology

LONDON — MTV has revealed that cartoon band Gorillaz will complete the line-up for its Europe Music Awards next week, with a performance using state-of-the-art hologram technology.

The four-piece virtual band, who are enjoying multi-million sales of latest album “Demon Days,” are set to break technological boundaries at the awards show in Lisbon with the animated 3D appearance.

MTV claims this will be the first time that this kind of technology has been used as part of a live music TV performance, anywhere in the world.

Gorillaz have nominations for best video, best group, best song and best pop, as well as best UK & Ireland act at the awards, which will air live from the Portuguese capital on Nov. 3.

Also confirmed to perform at the show are Akon, Coldplay, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Madonna, Robbie Williams, Pussycat Dolls, Shakira, System Of A Down and The Black Eyed Peas.
