PARIS — Video sales rev in France rose 16.9% in 2004 to e1.96 billion ($2.5 billion),according to figures published Monday.
DVD biz repped $2.35 billion of the total, an increase of 30.4%, compared with a drop of 53.4% to $187.5 million for VHS, France’s Centre National de la Cinematographie said.
The average price of a DVD fell 16.3% to $19.48.
Movies accounted for $1.51 billion, 60% of the total, up 18.9% on 2003.
U.S. fare dominated but its market share declined slightly more than 5 percentage points to 61%. However, revenues for American movies were up 9.6% to $1.2 billion.
French film DVD sales rose 32.9% to $415.4 millionwhile Gallic pics’ market share edged up to 21.5% vs. 19.2% in 2003.
