Toon sequel to feature McBride, Krauss on soundtrack

“Bambi” is going country when Disney releases a straight-to-DVD sequel to the animation classic on Feb. 7 that features original songs by country singers Martina McBride and Alison Krauss.

DisneyToon Studios president Sharon Morrill says Melissa Etheridge will perform on another upcoming DVD sequel, “Brother Bear 2.”

While dates and details of “Bear 2″ have not been finalized, “Bambi II” will feature Patrick Stewart as the voice of Bambi’s father, with whom Bambi reunites. The feature-length coming-of-age movie will bring back characters such as Thumper, Flower and Faline and will also introduce new characters, including Thumper’s rambunctious sisters.

Pic will also include bonus features including interactive games, trivia tracks and featurettes.

Morrill says DisneyToons will settle back to a release slate of three or four movies for DVD each year after a heavier slate in 2005 that has already seen the release of “Mulan II” and “Tarzan 2,” followed next week by “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch” and Sept. 13 by “Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie.” The studio is also expected to release “Kronk’s New Groove” this year.
