News feeds head to netco

NEW YORK — ABC News and CNN announced content agreements with Yahoo! on Monday under which the nets will provide daily video feeds to the portal starting in September.

Both will make available a selection of on-demand programming. CNN will offer daily clips, while ABC News will offer access to a selection of on-demand programs.

CNN recently made video on its Web site free but plans to begin charging again for a premium broadband service, CNN Pipeline, in the fall. ABC News charges a $4.95 monthly fee for access to online video.

On Yahoo! both services will be advertiser-supported.

Deal with ABC extends a previous agreement with the portal. ABC News renewed its video deal with AOL last week.

The cable news nets and broadcast network news divisions are ramping up digital initiatives in a bid to win more viewers during work hours, when many more viewers interact with news on the Web than on TV.
