Vet Fox exec clicks link with Yahoo!

Kurgan made chief business officer of netco

Longtime Fox exec Ira Kurgan is making the jump to Lloyd Braun’s online entertainment universe.

As chief business officer, Kurgan will head all deal making, legal issues and partnerships as Yahoo! makes the plunge into Hollywood.

Netco is in the process of moving all its content operations, including entertainment, games, and news, to its new office complex in Santa Monica.

Braun, who was tapped by Terry Semel to head Yahoo!’s entertainment and media division last November, is also believed to be working on deals with creative talent to bring original content to Yahoo!.

Kurgan spent 17 years in business affairs at Fox, most recently as prexy of network business operations.

With Yahoo! increasingly making the types of deals that networks make with talent and other content providers and partners, netco is in need of an experienced business affairs exec.

Kurgan will report directly to Braun.

“The Internet is still a relatively new medium, and I’m excited to utilize my years of deal making experience to determine new economic models and deal structures for this emerging content delivery platform,” he stated.

Though Peter Liguori recently took over as entertainment prexy at Fox, Kurgan’s departure is believed to be unrelated. Exec, who has been at Fox since its infancy, apparently found the business opportunities and financial offer from Yahoo! more enticing.
