“The Fairly OddParents” scribe Steven Marmel has signed an exclusive overall deal with Walt Disney TV Animation and Disney Channel.
Two-year pact calls for Marmel, who last created and exec produced the topical animated skein “This Just In” for Spike TV, to develop and produce both animated and live-action projects.
His first gig will be as showrunner for the upcoming Jetix show “Yin Yang Yo!” Skein is in production, and the first of 26 episodes will bow next year.
Disney has also committed to a blind live-action pilot script from Marmel, marking his first nonanimated effort.
Marmel spent the past six years working for Nickelodeon on “Fairly OddParents” as a story editor and producer and on “Danny Phantom,” which he co-developed with “OddParents” creator Butch Hartman.
Marmel is working on the bigscreen adaptation of “OddParents” with Hartman. He has been a columnist for USA Today and regularly does standup comedy around Los Angeles.
