Former Fox Network prexy Larry Jacobson, who went dot-com in the 1990s with senior exec posts at Ticketmaster and RealNetworks, has joined online media startup CDigix.
Company, which provides digital music and video to university partners, was previously headed by founder Brett Goldberg, who now becomes exec VP.
Jacobson will help company sign more deals with universities, but he also brings strong Hollywood relationships he hopes to translate into better content, particularly video.
“On the studio and network side, it feels like we’re getting close to doing something important in terms of a new window and new prices in the digital marketplace,” he said. “I’d like to spend time helping the industry through a set of opportunities in a controlled universe like ours with the demographics that are key to the future.”
As with companies like Apple iTunes and Napster, CDigix offers a broad range of music, but its video content consists of limited offerings from Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, ESPN and others.
Jacobson has already helped CDigix raise its first round of venture capital funding totaling high seven figures.
