HONG KONG — Local cabler i-Cable Communications has launched the imusic service, allowing legal downloads of local music.
Service functions like a Hong Kong-centered iTunes, sourcing songs from major local record companies that can be downloaded to a PC.
To use the service, users must register for an eWallet account and buy eDollars in HK$50 (US$6), US$13 and US$26 increments. Users then can listen to a 30-second demo before purchasing a song.
Launch is a bid toward protecting intellectual property rights and boosting the local music industry.
