Animation studio sets four features
CGI animation house GigaPix Studios has set up a production facility as it enters the increasingly competitive feature toon market.
Company, which has already produced several shorts, is developing four features: adventure comedy “Junk Bots”; “Twilight,” an irreverent fantasy about a young bunny; “Alien SAR,” a sci-fi thriller; and “Hypnopig,” a superhero spoof set in a world of anthropomorphic characters.
GigaPix is also in pre-production on an undisclosed feature tied to an in-development theme park. Budget is expected to be about $30 million.
Animation house is rapidly adding staff to begin production. It’s one of a growing number of toon studios hoping to make lower-budget CGI pics to tap into studios’ growing appetite for animation, as well as the lucrative family entertainment DVD biz.
“GigaPix Studios enters the market at an opportune time for the independent,” said CEO Chris Blauvelt. “Financing for moderate-budgeted, well-crafted CGI features with great storytelling is readily available.”
