Fox is giving an early Father’s Day gift to the producers of “American Dad,” greenlighting another round of episodes of the animated laffer.
Net has given the thumbs up to 13 more segs of the skein, created by “Family Guy” vets Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman. Order comes on top of the 19 episodes already in the works and wasn’t a complete surprise given Fox’s decision to order eight backup scripts (Daily Variety, May 10).
Following a post- Super Bowl sneak, “Dad” performed well last month when it moved into its regular 9:30 p.m. Sunday timeslot following “Family Guy.” It held on to big chunk of its “Guy” lead-in despite tough competish from “Desperate Housewives.”
“Dad” returns for a multiweek summer run of original episodes Sunday. With a total of 32 episodes now in the works, “Dad” will be able to stay on the air through most of the 2005-06 season, even with the long lead time required to produce animated skeins.
Barker and Weitzman serve as showrunner-exec producers.
