With everyone in the TV biz thinking dot-com, ABC is the newest net to put a senior exec in charge of its digital activities.
Albert Cheng has been tapped exec VP of digital media for Disney-ABC Television Group. He was formerly senior VP in charge of business strategy and development for Disney and ESPN network affiliate sales and marketing.
In his new post, he’ll oversee everything from Web sites to video-on-demand to wireless distribution deals for the Alphabet net, ABC News, ABC Family, Disney Channel and SOAPnet.
Executives who had been working independently for separate nets will now report to Cheng’s new group.
He reports directly to Disney-ABC Television Group prexy Anne Sweeney.
“We’re taking a very long-term view of this,” Cheng said of his plans. “Ultimately we want to make sure we are where our customers are.”
Earlier this year, CBS tapped dot-com vet Larry Kramer to head its digital efforts, while NBC U cable topper Jeff Gaspin is overseeing digital initiatives for that conglom’s TV group.
